Blockbuster Online Updates Site...To Blockbuster Offline - Again.

Hacking Netflix is reporting that Blockbuster Online "quietly" launched the new version of their site (that I wrote about here) on Sunday. Why quietly launch it? Well perhaps because for the past several hours the site is offline - yes, again!

Not only are they offline, they are once again offline with their rickety un-styled "site unavailable" message - they originally had this up during their entire day offline three weeks ago before changing to a stylized message with the Blockbuster logo. Did Blockbuster not even bother to save the nicer looking message just incase they went down again? What a mess.

Well if the site ever decides to come back up again, I'll give my thoughts about the new design then. Seriously though at this point I'm just waiting for Apple TV to get the iTunes Rental upgrade so that I can drop Blockbuster all together - it's getting ridiculous how often the site is down for huge chunks of time with absolutely no explanation.

Obviously you'd have to assume this latest outage is due to their new site launch, but the fact that it was already live earlier - Hacking Netflix and several users used it extensively - and now is completely down is not a good sign.

[UPDATE]: It's now 3:00am and Blockbuster is back online (yes, with the new site) - so not quite the whole day this time, only something like 5 or 6 hours offline. What's baffling beyond no mention of this downtime is that they don't even seem to mention the new site is here at all! Instead still prominently featured at the top of the site is a banner reading 'Change Is In the Air' - which still states there will be new features coming this January. What a launch!
