No 'Random Play' For Older Facebook Users

Facebook recently added a new 'Networking' option next to its' "Looking for:" area in users profiles - definitely a solid move as Facebook continues to grab more professionals. More interesting though is something Inside Facebook noticed: some of these "professionals" (those not members of college networks) are apparently not shown two of the "Looking for:" options, "Random play" and "Whatever I can get". Looks like the older folks are literally getting no love.

This of course all stems from the fact that Facebook started out as a network solely for college students - and now has expanded into an all-reaching global empire worth - if you believe the hype - anywhere from $10 to $15 billion dollars. The big networking battle currently ongoing for Facebook is with the business networking site LinkedIn. LinkedIn just recently added one profile picture for users, so I don't exactly think "Random play" is in their lexicon.

Facebook is growing up - but I'm not sure that is such a good thing. Just as older professional may be uncomfortable with seeing "Random play", the people of my generation may be uncomfortable with older professionals looking at our profiles and seeing our drunken shenanigans. This is exactly why the upcoming sorting contacts into groups is going to be so important.

Imagine if you logged into Facebook and saw that your boss was looking for some "random play" or "whatever I can get". So much for respect in the workplace.
