Search Engine Ask.com has undergone another overhaul (remember when it was still Ask Jeeves?) - this one looks pretty nice as they've relaunched themselves as a highly customizable search engine.Definitely taking a page from Yahoo and Google with their skins, Ask does it the right way by still keeping things simple. I like the polka dot skin, but unfortunately someone didn't seem to realize that when your window is sized a certain way (as mine is) you can't read any of the upper-right or bottom text because it runs into a little problem I like to call white-text-on-white-background.
The search results unfortunately still don't seem quite up to the bar set by Google. Just a quick search of 'parislemon' brings up my old school Epinions account - one that has barely been active over the past 5 years - hardly I think what people would be looking for if they typed that in (this site is 3rd on the list).
For more robust terms however the new search results page is pretty nice - but I was tricked at first assuming the content on the right-hand side were advertisements - they are not. Instead, we've got results categorized under 'images', 'blogs', 'encyclopedia', 'news', 'video', and 'dictionary' over there - well organized, Google might want to take note of this.
It's being called Ask3D officially, though I'm not really sure why. I guess it's just a marketing thing (which we all know Ask loves - can't escape those ads). I assume it's them saying that they're giving us a more 3-dimension view of the web - but are they really? Maybe the 3 in '3D' is supposed to conjure up thoughts of Web 3.0 like I think AOL was trying to do with their beta 3.0 - which looks suspiciously like Yahoo current.
We can get all excited about the new Ask tonight and tomorrow morning - then probably load up Google around lunchtime.
