Surface Computing Takes Queen, DRM-Free iTunes 7.2 Takes Rook

Lest you think I 've drowned in my own drool over Microsoft's new Surface Computing platform - there still is pertinent Apple info to get to.

That other-guy in the computing world has just pushed out iTunes 7.2 (available via Software Update right now). Not exactly hidden in its help section is the section about purchasing and previewing "higher-quality, DRM-free music downloads from participating music labels".

So yes, it looks like the first step in DRM-free iTunes will start tomorrow.

Now, to continue the debate - did Apple just push this update live to dampen some of the impact of Microsoft's super-awesome announcement? What we have is a not-so-subtle game of chess here ladies and gentlemen. Can't wait for the conclusion on stage tomorrow during the D.

[UPDATE]: Here's Apple's official statement on "iTunes Plus".
